Exodus 12 Passover Summary (1500 BC)
God through Moses directs the children of Israel to take a lamb without blemish, according to the number of souls within each house, throughout the entire congregation of Israel. Then, in the evening they are to kill the lamb, take its blood, strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door of their houses, where they are to eat it in haste: “It is the Lord’s passover.” Exodus 12 excerpts.
“For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgement: I am the LORD.” Exodus 12:12
“And, this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.” Exodus 12:14
God says he will only smite the “firstborn.” He also tells the children of Israel that the passover is to be a memorialized and to make the passover an ordinance that they are to recognize for ever, as you’ll see, Jesus Is the passover lamb of God. Egypt in this case is a metaphor for the world, and God’s judgement of it. Hang in there it gets better!
Jesus The Foretold Passover Lamb (27 AD)
1500 years later, John The Baptists says of Jesus: “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29
Pontius Pilate speaks to the Jews who desire of him a crucifixion of Jesus, even if it means letting Barabbas go, Pilot grants their request because imputing sentence from one criminal to another was a recognized custom during passover, here’s the scripture: ”But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas.” John 18:39-40
“And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.” Revelation 5:6
“Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.” Revelation 5:12 For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us. 1 Corinthians 5:7
“And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” Revelation 21:27
So there you go, I think we’ve established that the passover lamb in the days of Moses was foretelling the “Lamb Of God” Jesus.
Firstborn & Born Again
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3. ”All the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die.” Exodus 11:15
To be the “firstborn” in the land of Egypt then is the same as not being “born again.” Simply put, “firstborn” and not to be “born again” are the same exact thing spiritually. Both involve faith in the Lamb Of God, Jesus now, and the Passover lamb then. God’s the first and the greatest artist ever.
He uses biblical themes, stories and historical characters to illustrate his glory, so we can know that he’s the Lord God. No other “gods” offer fulfilled prophetic truths to substantiate their claims. Thank you for stopping in, please meditate on what’s been said, it’s all biblical and powerful.
